Non-Fiction Books

From 1971 to 1979 I listened to my father-in-law tell his tales that spoke of his history in a village in the Carpathian region of the Ukraine and Poland. His stories became an oral history that I recorded in the last five years of his life. This book tells the tale of his father and himself until 1928 when conditions in the Ukraine forced him to flee to a new country.

Not long after his arrival on the Canadian prairies, he married another Ukrainian who had been born in a different village in the Ukraine. This story ends with that marriage though his story continued for another fifty years as a pioneer farmer raising fourteen children. Today that family has grown and prospered as those children became parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. This book was originally written for them.

This could be the story of most immigrants that came to Canada.

These are the three books of my life story. Book 1 begins before my birth and ends when I am twenty and leaving home. Book 2 picks up the story from there then ends with my meeting my wife. Book 3 follows through to the near present time when the trauma of the past has finally been dealt with and allowing me to be a better person. Book 2 was written first in 2013 as if it was a fictional story though the details were based fully on the true story.
