{"id":695,"date":"2010-10-23T20:42:52","date_gmt":"2010-10-23T12:42:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/?p=695"},"modified":"2010-10-23T20:42:52","modified_gmt":"2010-10-23T12:42:52","slug":"695","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglongpre.ca\/pilgrim\/index.php\/2010\/10\/23\/695\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dsc03444.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-696\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dsc03444.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At several parks in town roller blade lessons are the happening thing for young people. \u00a0We see these lessons at Renmin Park near the city centre, Xin Bei Park near our apartment, and in the square in front of City Hall. \u00a0The idea is to keep the kids busy with learning some skill or studying to become smarter. \u00a0It&#8217;s all about trying to position one&#8217;s children to have them a leg up on their age-mates in the competitive job markets. \u00a0The unbelievable population of 1.6 billion people makes for a lot of competition<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dsc03502.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-699\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dsc03502.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dsc03502.jpg\"><\/a>Another photo from early evening as I look out the kitchen window. \u00a0This is a fancy restaurant called the Shanghai Home Restaurant. \u00a0I can actually recognize the first two characters as those for ShangHai. \u00a0As you might notice, these photos don&#8217;t fit into any kind of particular theme, they are just snippets of what we see in daily life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-701\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dsc03664.jpg?w=284\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And now, a final photo for today. \u00a0This is a little girl we often see sitting on this chair outside of her parents&#8217; small Muslim restaurant, a little noodle shop that is a popular place with the university crowd as the food is good and, more importantly, cheap.<\/p>\n<p>Almost everything happens on the street. \u00a0In between busy parts of the day, the shop and restaurant owners hang out their laundry on racks. \u00a0Small businesses cook their noon meals or evening meals in rice cookers on a table near the cash register so that they can prepare the meal while also taking care of occasional customers. \u00a0There are no dull moments, even in a short walk of only one block in length.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At several parks in town roller blade lessons are the happening thing for young people. \u00a0We see these lessons at Renmin Park near the city centre, Xin Bei Park near our apartment, and in the square in front of City &hellip;
