on the beach, the villa on the left hand side.\" width=\"327\" height=\"271\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-60\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our little &quot;casa&quot; on the beach, the villa on the left hand side.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We made it, safe and sound and without any trouble!\u00a0 We landed in M\u00e9rida about 6:30 on Monday evening,\u00a0and were met by someone who drove us straight to our villa at Chuburna as seen in the photo.\u00a0\u00a0 Of course, it was too late and too dark to get much of an idea of where we were, that had to wait for the next morning.\u00a0 We woke up earlier than usual and began to check out the area, especially the beach.<\/p>\n<p>The water is clean, crystal clear.\u00a0 As we walked in the water, small schools of fish swirled all around us.\u00a0 Of course, we had to go for a swim in the slightly cool water.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t take me too long to remember just how good it felt to swim in the sea.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc01735.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-58\" title=\"dsc01735\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc01735.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Taking a rest and enjoying a good visit with friends and family.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-58\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taking a rest and enjoying a good visit with friends and family.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Further along the beach we watched pelicans become dive bombers in their search for food.\u00a0 There are a lot of birds here, seagulls, pelicans and others.\u00a0 The beach has a series of sticks serving as boundary markers for various properties as well as for protection of the beach from erosion.\u00a0 The posts also serve as resting spots for birds needing to catch a rest from the daily hunt for food.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_59\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc01742.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-59 \" title=\"dsc01742\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc01742.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"A small starfish that we decided needed to stay in the sea rather than become a part of our collection of sea shells.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-59\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A small starfish that we decided needed to stay in the sea rather than become a part of our collection of sea shells.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After a lunch, we decided to walk about two kilometres into the village of Chuburna along a dusty sand road that separates the beach homes from a second row of homes.\u00a0 A number of the homes are occupied, but most are empty as they wait for both Easter holidays and summer holidays when their owners will come with their families to enjoy the seaside.\u00a0 In the village we looked for an Internet caf\u00e9 only to discover that none existed in the village.\u00a0 We did check out the small fruit and vegetable shops as we walked through the village.\u00a0 We saw many tiny &#8220;mom and pop&#8221; kind of restaurants which held only a small handfull of tables.\u00a0 Obviously, tourism has not quite reached the area.\u00a0 It is a poor village with only the most basic of things for the residents who make a living either fishing or in their miniscule shops.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_61\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc01770.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-61 \" title=\"dsc01770\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc01770.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Sunset from out patio.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-61\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunset from out patio.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Back at the villa, we met our neighbour who has the Internet that we will be borrowing for our time here.\u00a0 The owner of both villas had arranged this for us as we didn&#8217;t want to lose connection with family and friends.\u00a0 Our neighbour&#8217;s name is Kathy, a nice person living alone in Mexico.\u00a0 She fell in love with the place and will be a good source of information and help as she has been here for over a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Internet caused us no end of grief and so we made arrangements for a technician to come out from the city to deal with the problem in the morning.\u00a0 Obiviously, the problem got fixed as I am posting this journal entry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the Internet issue settled, we spent the evening enjoying some wine and the sunset.\u00a0 That is the story of our first day in Mexico.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We made it, safe and sound and without any trouble!\u00a0 We landed in M\u00e9rida about 6:30 on Monday evening,\u00a0and were met by someone who drove us straight to our villa at Chuburna as seen in the photo.\u00a0\u00a0 Of course, it &hellip;
