{"id":405,"date":"2010-09-12T14:23:57","date_gmt":"2010-09-12T06:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/?p=405"},"modified":"2010-09-12T14:23:57","modified_gmt":"2010-09-12T06:23:57","slug":"the-freshmen-arrive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglongpre.ca\/pilgrim\/index.php\/2010\/09\/12\/the-freshmen-arrive\/","title":{"rendered":"The Freshmen Arrive."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03828.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-406\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03828.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saturday and the end of the first week of regular classes means that it is time for the freshmen to move onto the campus. \u00a0Unlike the return of the\u00a0sophomores, juniors and seniors who arrived over a period of a few days, this was a one-day event. \u00a0The parade of black cars with darkly tinted windows entering the campus was impressive as it was meant to be. \u00a0Once inside the grounds and with the vehicle parked, families gathered at the entrance to find out where the family had to take their pride and joy for registration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03840.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-408\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03840.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>The students are clustered into cohorts, or troops if one wants to think in military terms, according to their program of studies which will typically last four years. \u00a0A small number of the groups are just under thirty students in size with other groups either forty or sixty students in size, all dependent upon the major to be studied over the four years. \u00a0There is a corresponding tuition charge for smaller class sizes as one would naturally expect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03836.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-410\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03836.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the students have found their registration location and gone through the process, it was time for them to line up in order to get their uniforms for the next two weeks which are all about team-building and learning discipline. \u00a0The first set of classes will have to wait until the start of week four at the university.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-411\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03838.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The students are given military fatigues as they will spend the next two weeks being welded into strong and cohesive cohorts. \u00a0Marching, chanting, exercises, group activity and some very basic military training creates a sense of team, a sense of belonging together. \u00a0Soon the parents will leave their young prince and princesses in the hands of the university in the hopes of family dreams for their children becoming a reality.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday and the end of the first week of regular classes means that it is time for the freshmen to move onto the campus. \u00a0Unlike the return of the\u00a0sophomores, juniors and seniors who arrived over a period of a few &hellip;
