{"id":350,"date":"2010-09-04T17:26:02","date_gmt":"2010-09-04T09:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/?p=350"},"modified":"2010-09-04T17:26:02","modified_gmt":"2010-09-04T09:26:02","slug":"a-taste-of-educational-bureaucracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglongpre.ca\/pilgrim\/index.php\/2010\/09\/04\/a-taste-of-educational-bureaucracy\/","title":{"rendered":"A Taste of Educational Bureaucracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_349\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03485.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-349\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-349\" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03485.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-349\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maureen and Young, the FAO member in charge of housing for FTs<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Yesterday we had our first staff meeting involving the Foreign Teachers (FTs) and their co-teachers as well as the head of the Foreign Languages department of C.I.T. \u00a0and two members of the Foreign Affairs Office (FAO). \u00a0Sunny is in charge of our technology needs, and Young is in charge of housing needs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_351\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-351\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-351  \" title=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dsc03492.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-351\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mr. Xu and I engaged in a friendly conversation catching up on the past two years.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Xu, the head of the\u00a0department, wasted little time with preliminaries as he set his secretary who does double duty as co-teacher for Maureen and I, to passing out the documents, texts and assignments to each of the seven English-speaking FTs. \u00a0C.I.T. also has three Japanese-speaking FTs in the department, however, their opening meeting was held at a different time for obvious reasons. \u00a0Once the paperwork was taken care of, it was time for us to be made aware of the expectations for teaching and documentation, expectations that were for both Chinese university instructors as well as the FT instructors. \u00a0While being welcoming and encouraging for the upcoming term, Mr. Xu did want us to know that we are accountable as teachers, accountable to students, colleagues and to administration. \u00a0Teaching English at C.I.T. is not about play time for foreigners, a paid holiday in China. \u00a0I have to admit that the idea of accountability was something good to hear.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday we had our first staff meeting involving the Foreign Teachers (FTs) and their co-teachers as well as the head of the Foreign Languages department of C.I.T. \u00a0and two members of the Foreign Affairs Office (FAO). \u00a0Sunny is in charge &hellip;
