four voyageurs from Saskatchewan.\u00a0 We had finally arrived at the protected breeding grounds of the flamingos and what a sight!\u00a0 Both Roger and I took way too many photos while Maureen and Suzanne studied the birds (and us) through binoculars provided by Ismael.\u00a0 I got Ismael to take this photo of us with my camera.Roger and Suzanne watching the flamingos.<\/p>\n<div id=\"caption-attachment-330\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roger and Suzanne watching the flamingos.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I got to try my telephoto lens while at the mating grounds, a good thing to have brung as the flamingos were a bit skitish and so stayed quite a distance away from where we were.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03220.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-331\" title=\"dsc03220\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03220.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"dsc03220\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">Since the lens made the camera heavier than usual, I ended up using my miniature tripod and laying on the salt-crusted dirt between the large shallow ponds.\u00a0 The ponds were filled with brine shrimp which was what helped the flamingos have their rich pink colour.\u00a0 Since it was mating season, the pinks were an even deeper colour than normal.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03228.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-332\" title=\"dsc03228\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03228.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"dsc03228\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">When you look at these photos, you only get a small idea, and a poor one at that of just how breath-taking these birds were to see and listen to.\u00a0 With so many birds in one area, thousands of them, it was like being at a Saturday farmer&#8217;s market with everyone shouting out their bargains for all the wandering shoppers.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">One final shot of the birds before I take you on the next part of our journey through the Yucatan.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03240.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-333\" title=\"dsc03240\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03240.jpg\" alt=\"dsc03240\" width=\"700\" height=\"249\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">Once we returned from the three hour tour, we left Rio Lagartos for the drive to our next stop, Sudzal.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03291.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-336\" title=\"dsc03291\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03291.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"dsc03291\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>However it was only a matter of three kilometres before we decided to stop at a small cenote.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03289.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-335\" title=\"dsc03289\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/dsc03289.jpg?w=280\" alt=\"dsc03289\" width=\"280\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The water was bright blue-green and crystal clear making it easy to see the fish swimming in it.\u00a0 It was a shallow cenote unlike the one we saw on our tour of the mangrove swamp.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">This is where I will stop for this post.\u00a0 Tomorrow I will talk about our adventures for the afternoon of our second day out in the Yucatan
