{"id":245,"date":"2009-01-28T09:49:29","date_gmt":"2009-01-28T15:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/?p=245"},"modified":"2009-01-28T09:49:29","modified_gmt":"2009-01-28T15:49:29","slug":"dzemul-and-xcombo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglongpre.ca\/pilgrim\/index.php\/2009\/01\/28\/dzemul-and-xcombo\/","title":{"rendered":"Santa Ana, Dzemul and X&#8217;combo"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_239\" style=\"width: 217px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02758.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-239\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-239\" title=\"dsc02758\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02758.jpg?w=207\" alt=\"The main entrance into the Santa Ana church.\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-239\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The main entrance into the Santa Ana church.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The cathedral in Dzemul is huge, something that one wouldn&#8217;t expect for such a small village in the countryside.\u00a0 The church is old and was originally built and controlled by the Franciscan Order.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_238\" style=\"width: 265px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02749.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-238\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-238\" title=\"dsc02749\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02749.jpg?w=255\" alt=\"The altar of Santa Ana church.\" width=\"255\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-238\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The altar of Santa Ana church.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We watched as an old man went through the process of opening up the church before entering it.\u00a0 Besides the impressive front altar, there were two shrines on each side of the church, one of which contained the relics of some saint.\u00a0\u00a0 Interesting was the presence of a statue of a black saint.<\/p>\n<div>In the centre of the massive back to the altar was the virgin mother of the Yucatan, a replica of the famous statue held in Izamal, the one that was crowned by Pope John Paul II.\u00a0 Once we were finished visiting the cathedral, we decided it was time to drive back towards the coast and the Mayan ruins of X&#8217;combo.<\/div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_240\" style=\"width: 280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02771.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-240\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-240 \" title=\"dsc02771\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02771.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"The pyramid of the X'combo Mayan ruins.\" width=\"270\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-240\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The pyramid of the X&#39;combo Mayan ruins.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We drove down a narrow dirt trail to get into the ruins site.\u00a0 Unlike our visit to Tulum the last time we were in Mexico, there were no little shops lining the entrance to the grounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_241\" style=\"width: 280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02802.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-241\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-241 \" title=\"dsc02802\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02802.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"A small temple to the right of the main pyramid.\" width=\"270\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-241\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A small temple to the right of the main pyramid.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The ruins gave an appearance of being well off the beaten trails for tourists.\u00a0 Besides ourselves, we saw two others who came later in the morning,\u00a0climbing the ruins and taking photographs, Mexicans.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_242\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02823.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-242\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-242\" title=\"dsc02823\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02823.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Dzemul -
