sh\u00ec)\u00a0in Canadian terms. \u00a0It is a union of five administrative districts consisting of towns, villages and rural settings contains of about three and a half million people (r\u00e9n\u00a0&#8211; \u4eba). \u00a0Changzhou city (Ch\u00e1ngzh\u014dush\u00ec\u00a0&#8211; \u5e38\u5dde\u5e02) itself has about two million people as official residents. \u00a0This picture which I took in September, 2006, features Changzhou&#8217;s City Hall (sh\u00eczh\u00e8ngf\u01d4\u00a0&#8211; \u5e02\u653f\u5e9c), a tall modern structure of twin towers situated behind the People&#8217;s Square (r\u00e9nm\u00edn\u00a0gu\u01ceng\u00a0ch\u01cen<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdbg.net\/chindict\/chindict.php?page=worddict&amp;wdrst=0&amp;wdqb=people%27s+square#\">g<\/a> &#8211; \u4eba\u6c11\u5e7f\u573a). \u00a0City Hall is in the XinBei district (X\u012bnb\u011biq\u016b\u00a0&#8211; \u65b0\u5317\u533a)\u00a0not too far from the apartment in which we live in Sunshine Gardens (Y\u00e1ngGu\u0101ng Hu\u0101Yu\u00e1n &#8211; \u9633\u5149\u82b1\u56ed).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/2006-september-396.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-216\" title=\"2006 September 396\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/2006-september-396.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a scene from Yingchun Walking Street, a promenade that stretches for a few blocks paralleling the main street, Yanling XiLu. \u00a0With the development of many modern shops along the main street, Yingchun Walking Street has fallen into disrepair. \u00a0In a way, this makes for a different experience as locals with less money are more apt to shop on this promenade than in the main shopping mall of NanDaJie. \u00a0Often one can see small sidewalk enterprises selling anything from old coins to old fashioned fast food staples.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/2006-september-376.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-218\" title=\"2006 September 376\" src=\"http:\/\/laowaiteacher.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/2006-september-376.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next to the NanDaJie Shopping Centre is People&#8217;s Park (r\u00e9nm\u00edn\u00a0g\u014dngyu\u00e1n\u00a0&#8211; \u4eba\u6c11\u516c\u56ed), a favourite place for many of the elders in the city to gather in order to play cards or to watch their grandchildren play. \u00a0Though not nearly as large as many of the parks in the city, it is definitely a park that is treasured.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Changzhou (\u5e38\u5dde)\u00a0is more than a city (\u5e02 &#8211;
