{"id":120,"date":"2009-01-14T13:17:15","date_gmt":"2009-01-14T19:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/?p=120"},"modified":"2009-01-14T13:17:15","modified_gmt":"2009-01-14T19:17:15","slug":"playing-bridge-in-progreso","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglongpre.ca\/pilgrim\/index.php\/2009\/01\/14\/playing-bridge-in-progreso\/","title":{"rendered":"Playing Bridge in Progreso"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<dl class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc021261.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117\" title=\"dsc021261\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc021261.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Iguanas basking in the sunshine.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Iguanas basking in the sunshine.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>On a recent walk, we came across these two iguanas basking in the sunlight.\u00a0 From our talks with locals here, the iguanas are just coming out again now that things are starting to warm up.\u00a0 I guess they didn&#8217;t care for what passes as winter here in Mexico.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02114.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-113\" title=\"dsc02114\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02114.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"dsc02114\" width=\"269\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">In the distance, looking east, we noticed a cruise ship heading out to sea.\u00a0 The city of Progreso is a port of call for cruise ships in the Caribbean.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02144.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-115\" title=\"dsc02144\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02144.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"dsc02144\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">On our last trip to Progreso on Tuesday, we saw how busy the city got when a cruise ship is in port.\u00a0 Out come the two-decker tour buses as they take a route through the central part of the city stopping at the tourism office in the picture.\u00a0 Beside the tourism office is a crafts and clothing market which exists only on cruise ship days.\u00a0 We noticed quiet a difference walking the downtown core on non-cruise days and on a cruise day.\u00a0 Out came all kinds of sidewalk shops selling masks and straw hats, cuban cigars and just about any kind of tourist item one could think of.\u00a0 It is obvious that tourism is a huge part of the local economy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02149.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-119\" title=\"dsc02149\" src=\"http:\/\/saskatchewangypsy.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/dsc02149.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"dsc02149\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">We didn&#8217;t come into Progreso just so that we could see the city on a cruise day, we came because it was a day for playing bridge.\u00a0 Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, the foreigners who are interested gather at a hotel on the eastern side of the city for a few hours of bridge.\u00a0 Our friend Roger from the Landing invited us to try it out.\u00a0 We are glad we did.\u00a0 Now, we have another activity for those days when the beach and sun aren&#8217;t too inviting.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">With an afternoon of bridge finished, we took a bus back into the centre of the city where we then caught our small bus for Chuburna.\u00a0 Back at home, we caught up on all the small things that make our day complete.\u00a0 Another day and another adventure in Chuburna, Mexico.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iguanas basking in the sunshine.
