Maps That Matter

This is where you can find the Yucatan province in relation to Cuba and Florida. It is almost next door to Belize, at the southern end of Mexico.

Okay, so now you have the main map of Southern Mexico.  Merida, the capital city of Yucatan is where we are to arrive in the evening of January 5th.  It is about 45 minutes from there to our villa taking a regular bus then taking a minibus for the last stretch.  Next map, please.

This is a detailed map of Yucatan province. There are way too many towns to sort through, so I drew and arrow to help you out. You will see that Chuburna isn't even on the map. The closest town is Chelem. Chuburna is just barely to the left (west) of Chelem, only a few kilometres away actually.

Now, I hope this gives you a better idea of “where” we will be living.

Trying To Stretch The Limits

In this map you can see Progreso at the top left-centre in the light green. Cancun is in the dark green in another province.

Well, here goes a new attempt at travel blogging.  If all works as well as I anticipate, there will be fewer bugs to deal with as compared to Planet Ranger.  What bugs?  Well, loading photographs sometimes had to be done several times as glitches kept sabotaging the uploads.  Second glitch was the slowness of the Planet Ranger service.  Third was the inability to link photos and posts together, it was either/or with usually most skipping the blog in favour of the photos (not that this wasn’t what I would have done as well).  And most annoying, the way comments were almost impossible to link to a blog entry.   WordPress might be able to solve all of these issues for me.  Will it make it a better experience for you?  You will have to decide and let me know through your comments here on the website.  Just click on “comment” and tell me what you think.

Now, many of you may or may not know that we are headed off to a small fishing village called Chuburna in sunny Mexico.  Where is Chuburna?  Well, it is located in the same area of Mexico as Cancun.  Chuburna is in the Mexican province of Yucatan on the sea coast to the west of the thriving community of Progreso which is a Caribbean Cruise Tour stop.

This is the villa we rented, as it was advertised on the Internet by Vacation Rentals By Owners (VRBO).

The villa is on the beach that stretches all the way to Progreso before continuing on eastwards for another long way.  The villa has two bedrooms and is fully furnished and equipped.  Yes, this includes a television and high speed Internet access.  Of course, there will be more to show you when we are actually in the villa.

In the map above, you will notice a lot of Mayan ruin sites noted with most of them in Yucatan province.  We do hope to get to visit a fair number of them as well as the capital city of Merida.

Of course, the beach and the water will be attractive enough to take up a lot of our time, especially since it provides a lot of walking space.

Well, that is good enough for a start.  Now, it’s time to hear from you.  Merry Christmas from these two retired gypsies.
