It finally happened! It wasn’t a long hike but it exceeded my expectations as I wandered prairie hills. There used to be a sign which said “Road Closed.” It is now gone. I have to admit that I missed seeing the sign. I imagine it fell down and was then carted off by the farmer who owns the land. As I left the dirt trail used by the farmer for his trucks and tractors, I followed a faint old trail that hasn’t seen an ATV for a few years. <\/p>\n\n\n

I had hoped to see wildlife, but with the temperature at 30\u00b0 Celsius, that was more than just unlikely. Sensible animals seek shade when warranted. Humans aren’t noted for being “sensible.” And I am included in the group. Enough direct sunshine is enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I could have walked for another five kilometres as I had the strength and health to do so, however that would have just plain been too much. My wife and I had walked around our town in the morning – clothing on of course. When I was younger, I wouldn’t have thought about it and would just have kept going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there was a different reason for saying “enough is enough.” I saw a farmer loading hay bales on what would be my path back to my truck parked at the base of the prairie hills. With the lunch hour over, it would only be a matter of time when a second farmer would return to the hay field beside my truck. There was no need to press my luck. It was time to go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
