Yesterday and today had temperatures exceed 30\u00b0 Celsius in the shade. That’s hot no matter how you look at it. Admittedly, it isn’t anywhere near record-breaking, but after a cool and wet spring and early summer, it comes as a surprise. The heat isn’t the only surprise. Yesterday saw the biggest number of visitors to this site since the first week in June. Thank you for coming and reading. I assumed that you came to read, not just look at the images which are definitely not worth the effort of visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As usual, the day began with coffee on the deck. We lit double the number of mosquito coils in order to enjoy the beginning of the day outdoors. Knowing it was supposed to be HOT, I chose to spend a good portion of the morning after coffee writing on the deck. I also have shifted sunbathing from afternoon to late morning as the highest temperatures happen by around 5 pm. The afternoon is spent working on my latest work-in-progress. Yesterday, early evening, I cut the grass again. Our lawn is a mixture of white clover and fescue grasses, better for dealing with semi-drought conditions which are normal for this area. I trimmed it to three-and-a-half inches with the intention to cut is a second time on Monday to two-and-a-half inches as we will have about 15 people in the yard for a four-day gathering of our children and grandchildren. Two of our grandchildren and their spouses will be unable to come which would have made it twenty people in the yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will be fogging the yard to take care of the mosquito problem which would otherwise force us to have everyone in the house for too many hours. The family is a very active bunch as we enjoy yard games such as golf toss, cornhole, washeroo, and so on. Yes, I know, fogging is a drastic act. I will be doing this late evening so that no bird is endangered. Our neighbour is a farmer and has just done his yard ]father of the twins] and suggested we do the same, giving us the material needed. He is thinking of his toddlers who love being in their backyard on the other side of the non-privacy fence mentioned in a previous post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will be back, likely not tomorrow as we are driving to visit a grandson and his wife, a grandson who won’t be coming to the gathering. I will be helping him with putting in a new bathroom vanity and sink, as well as a new dining-area light. I am mentoring him so he learns how to be more of a handyman at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
