Since we spend so much of our time being somewhere other than at home in a little town on the Canadian prairies, we decided to install security cameras in February. Our first absence from home, we caught a neighbour in our house. We knew she was going into the house as she had asked to get something. Since then, no one entered the house or appeared in our back yard while we were gone. We have only been absent from home for no more than seven days at a time since we put the three cameras in service.

Normally, we turn off the cameras when at home with the exception of the one for the backyard. I need a ladder to turn it off and so it avoids always being turned off. As a result, the camera goes off, especially at night, when a neighbour’s cat decided to go on the prowl in our yard. Night vision works. Birds also trigger the camera.

The quality of the images to actually identify someone approaching the back door was my main concern which was the reason we installed the second camera in the kitchen looking at the patio door, as well as the side door. This was the camera that caught our neighbour. The third camera was put in our living room to focus on the front door. If someone enters the house or the yard, I get a notification. I have set the recording to thirty seconds as the initial setting was for ten seconds. Audio is captured as well. I am pleased with the improved level of security, especially as we will be again absent for months at a time during the winter when we go to Mexico.

Well, as to be expected, when any of the cameras are live when we are at home, they catch me in my natural state as seen in the photo above.
