Wat Bun Kanachanaram – Discarded Buddha

Wat Bun Kanachanaram - Discarded Buddha

Today I had enough energy to go on another walk, this time to a different Buddhist Temple, this one found on Sukhumvit Road, the main road heading out to Bangkok going north. The temple, Wat Bun Kanachanaram, was even smaller than the last temple visited, but it had more space and featured quite a few little cottages where it was obvious that monks were in residence. It appeared that non-monks would also be able to spend time there in retreats. As I wandered the temple grounds, the number of cats and dogs were astounding, it almost seemed as though this temple was serving as the animal rescue centre for Pattaya. And near the entrance, along side the wall I discovered this chipped and discarded statuette of Buddha.

I thought of Zarathustra proclaiming “God is Dead!” Perhaps this is appropriate for Pattaya which has the well-earned name as the sin city of Asia.
